Annotation

The model for the woman was Marie-Louise Le Put (Goudelin 1875- c. 1979), who married in 1902 François Mathurin Gaultier (Saint-Méen 1862 - 1956). On Wikipedia and many other sites is said that she "had lost her husband in the war and had also lost their three young children." This is not true. Nobody seems to have noticed that the name Gaultier does not appear on the tablets with victims' names. Madame Paul, god-daughter of Gaultier's second son, wrote on the 'Monument aux morts pacifistes' website, that Marie Louise Gaultier was not a widow in 1922, since her husband died in 1956; they had not had three children, but only two sons, who died in 1927 and 1964 respectively; Marie-Louise herselft died peacefully in her 104th year. She had posed for the monument, but only her head was sculpted.
