Tocqueville est né en 1805 à Paris.
Aristocrate français libéral, historien, grand
penseur politique, homme politiquem son
oeuvre principale est une réflexion sur la
démocratie qu'il mène par l'étude de la
Révolution Française et de la démocratie
américaine. Il meurt à Cannes en 1859.

Annotation

At the Esplanade de la Laïcité, inaugurated 6 December 2014, are five statues. An allegory of man in the heart of the city called Metamorphosis, and four portraits of personalities more or less from Cherbourg, linked to the city by their celebrity" Alexis de Tocqueville, Roland Barthes, Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly, Jean-François Millet.
