Cherbourg. Ecrivain français, grande figure
de la sémiologie et du structuralisme, il a
exercé une influence majeure dans la
critique littéraire. Professeur au Collège de
France, il meurt à en 1980.

Annotation

At the Esplanade de la Laïcité, inaugurated 6 December 2014, are five statues. An allegory of man in the heart of the city called Metamorphosis, and four portraits of personalities more or less from Cherbourg, linked to the city by their celebrity" Alexis de Tocqueville, Roland Barthes, Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly, Jean-François Millet.
