Description

Bronze sculpture of a boy grabbing the rifle of a soldier who has just been hit. The sculpture is placed on a pedestal, with on one side the coat of arms of the municipalities of the Bayeux arrondissement, a bronze plaque with a relief, and text.

The relief shows a man sitting on the coast looking the a ship at sea, with the text 'Loin du Pays, d'apres le tableau de S. Le Pippre, capitain des | M....les tiré à Tourois, bataille | Mans le 12 Janvier 1871.' To the left a painter's palette with a portrait of Septime Le Pippre, and the text 'A son capitaine | J. Le Pippre | .... hommage | A.J. Le Duc'.
