Description

Bronze statue of Laplace standing with his left hand resting on a celestial globe.
On the sides of the pedestal are bronze portrait medallions of:

GALILEE - Galileo Galilei (Pisa 1564 - Arcetri 1642), Italian physicist, mathematician, astronomer and philosopher (Wikipedia).
NEWTON - Sir Isaac Newton (Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth, Lincoln, 1643 - Kensington, 1727), English physicist, mathematician, astronomer, natural philosopher, alchemist, and theologian (Wikipedia).

Attached to the pedestal are benches.
