En hommage aux victimes de l'Incorporation de Force des Alsaciens-
Mosellans dans l'armée allemande lors de la guerre de 1939-1945.
Ils étaient 130 000 à partir contre leur gré, au mépris de toutes les
conventions internationales, évitant à leurs familles d'affreuses
représailles.
Afin que le souvenir de cette tragédie jamais ne s'éteigne, ce
monument leur est dédié.

Annotation

The term Malgré-nous (despite ourselves or in spite of our will) refers to men of the Alsace-Lorraine region who were forcibly conscripted into Wehrmacht or the SS (Waffen SS), during the Second World War. The memorial commemorates those Malgré-nous who died in Tambow and other Russian camps.

Sculptor

Orlando Longhi (1926), French sculptor of Italian origin, living in Illzach.
