Façade sculptures of the Union Bank

Description

Eleven statues in the lunettes above the windows of the first floor. The reliefs show representations of occupations, the two at the both ends are more allegorical.
From left to right:

Ceres: a seated woman with fruit and a sheaf of corn.
Tanning: a man scraping a hide.
Hunting: a man who just killed a bear with a spear.
Lumbering: a resting lumberjack with an ax.
Trade: Hermes kneeling at a bale of goods. The bale is signed with an anchor and VR 98.
Shipping: a sailor sitting in front of an anchor.
Industry: a sitting man with a cog-wheel.
Mining: a stonecutter.
Farming: a woman harvesting corn.
Husbandry: a woman with a cow.
Law: A seated woman with a sword and a tablet.

Mercurius is signed VR 98.

Annotation

The building 'Yhdyspankki' was built by architect Gustaf Nyström (Helsinki 1856 - Helsinki 1917) in 1898.

Sculptor
