Description
Bronze statue on a granite pedestal. On the corners of this pedestal are four bronze statues of important men during Isabella's reign (front right, counterclockwise; names as they appear at the foot of the statues):
- El Gran Capitan. Don Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba, Prince of Maratra (1453-1515), general and statesman. He was called El Gran Capitán by contemporaries and "the Father of Trench Warfare" by historians.
- Cristobal Colon, in 1492 Ferdinand and Isabella paid his voyage of discovery to America.
- Cardenal Cisneros. Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros OFM (1436-1517), cardinal and statesman, twice regent of Spain, Grand Inquisitor, missionary of the Moors, promoted the Crusades in North Africa, and founded the Complutense University.
- Boabdil. Abu 'abd Allah Muhammad XII) (1460?-1527), the last Moorish king of Granada. He surrendered the town to Ferdinand and Isabella in 1492.
