Description

Statue of Columbus on a high pedestal. On the front an plaque with inscription (disappeared between 1999 and 2006) below the coat of arms of Salamanca. On the sides of the pedestal are bronze portrait medallions of Queen Isabella I and Diego de Deza.

Annotation

Monument on the Plaza de Colón in memory of Columbus' stay in Salamanca. The statue, which is forcecul and rather plain, and the reliefs, one of them depicting Friar Diego de Deza and the other Isabel la Católica, were crafted by Eduardo Barrón in 1892.
