Statues - Hither & Thither
Plaza del Cristo
Virginia - Monumento a los Jóvenes del Mundo
Virginia - Monument to the Youth of the World
Carlos Marrero Hernández
The sculpture shows a young woman, Virginia, sitting on a little wall with a Spanish guitar next to her. The steel base of the figure represents a wall that once actually stood in the Plaza del Cristo.
It recalls two youth organisations called Edelweiss and Aborá, which developed an intense social and cultural activity in Tacoronte in the 1960s and 1970s. The local chronicler Enrique Acosta Dorta described the work of these two groups in the book La Plaza del Cristo. De Edelweiss a Aborá. The artist Carlos Marrero belonged to one of the two groups.
