Description

Sculpture group on top of the gable of the building of the Circulo de Amistad XII de Enero. The group includes a standing winged figure, flanked by two seated figures representing Fame (with two flutes) and History (with a scroll). The gable is flanked by two griffins. On the front of the side-wings are caryatides.

The building was designed in 1904 by the architect Mariano Estanga. Its construction was completed in 1911 and is an example of Second Empire architecture in the Canary Islands. It presents an eclectic style and has sculptures made by Eduardo Tarquis and Teodomiro Robayna.

Concerning the date of the sculptural work, the three sources mentioned below do not agree with each other.
