Azulejo to commemorate the special meeting of the Real Sociedad Colombina Onubense (Royal Columbian Society of Huelva) on 3 August 1992 in this church.
Text: "El Dia 3 de Agusto de 1992 con ocasion del V Centenario de la salida de las carabelas descubridoras de America del puerto de Palos, la Real Sociedad Colombina Onubense celebrro su sesion extraordinaria en el templo parroquial de San Jorge, como homenaje a los marineros y al pueblo, donde se gesto el nacimiento del Nuevo Mundo.

Translation: On August 3, 1992 on occasion of the 5th Centenary of the departure of the discovery caravels of America from the port of Palos, the Royal Columbian Society of Huelva celebrated its extraordinary meeting at the parochial temple of Saint George, as homage to the sailors and the people, where the birth of the New World was gestated.

Text: "Totus Tuus
A este templo donde rezaron los marineros el 3-VIII-1492 antes de tomar rumbo a lo desconocido, acudio S.S. Juan Pablo II para dar gracias a Dios en el V^o Centenario del descubrimiento y evangelizacion de America. Palos de la Fra. Cuna del Descubrimiento. 14 Junio 1993.
Translation: Totus Tuus. To this temple where the sailors prayed the 3rd of August 1492 before taking course to the unknown, came H.H. John Paul II to give thanks to God on the 5th Centenary of the discovery and evangelization of America. Palos de la Fra. Cradle of the Discovery. 14 June, 1993.

Annotation

Outside the church, an azulejo sign explains the role of this church in the discovery of America:

"La Iglesia de San Jorge Martir edificio de estilo gotico mudejar, construido a comienzos del siglo XV por los Condes de Miranda sobre un templo anterior, es sin duda una de los lugares Colombinos por excelencia testigo excepcional de la gestacion del descubrimiento de America. En ella se desarrollaron los mas entrañables episodios de la misma. En la madrugada del 3 de Agusto, despues de haber orado y comulgado como culminacion de los actos celebrados en honor de Nuestra Señora de los Milagros, patrona de Palos. Cuya festividad se conmemoraba. Los Marinos Palermos salieron de la iglesia de San Jorge, por la puerta mudejar llamada de los novios, hacia el embarcadero."

Translation: "The Church of Saint George Martyr, building of gothic mudéjar style, built a the beginning of the 15th Century by the Counts of Miranda over a former temple, is without any doubt one of Columbus's places by excellence and an exceptional witness of the gestation of the discovery of America. In it were developed its most dearly loved episodes. At down of August 3, after having prayed and received communion as the culmination of the acts held in honor of Our Lady of the Miracles, patron saint of Palos. Whose festivity was then commemorated. The Palos's Sailors left the church of Saint George, through the mudéjar door called of the bride and groom, towards the pier."
