Palos de la Frontera / Puerto Histórico

Description

The harbour of Palos de la Frontera, where Columbus' fleet left on 3 August 1492, is filled up long ago and is now for the large part a park. In this park you will find several small memorials. The photo above shows the viewpoint halfway the cliff. In the distance you see the Rio Tinto with on the opposite bank the city of Huelva. The explanatory sign on the soccle says that on 3 August 1492 from here the sailors from Palos undertook the voyage to America.
