Description

Monument in the shape of an open book, with on the right page a bronze relief portrait, Vilde's signature (over his dates 1865-1933) and a text by Vilde. On the left page are reliefs with scenes from Vilde's historical trilogy, Mahtra sõda (The Peasant War at Mahtra, 1902), Kui Anija mehed Tallinnas käisid (When the Men of Anija Went to Tallinn, 1903), and Prohvet Maltsvet (Prophet Maltsvet, 1908).

Annotation

The cornerstone was placed 4 March 1965, the 100th anniversary of Vilde's birth.

Sculptor

Albert Eskel (Tallinn 1922 - Tallinn 1975), Estonian sculptor, married to the sculptor Juta Eskel (Wkipedia).
