The mural artwork of the Perthesforum connects the present time with the cultural treasures that are stored here. The heterogeneous building complex with extensions from the 18th century to the 20th century originally served as the publishing house and home of Justus Perthes. Today's users are the Stiftung Schloß Friedenstein (museum depot), the Thuringian State Archive (archive and user rooms) and the Gotha Research Library of the University of Erfurt (workshops and depot of the historical collection of the cartographic publishing house Perthes). The south façade of the central courtyard, with its recessed blind windows, formed an ideal shelf to compile a collection of scientific instruments, nature and animal representations, treasures, and relics, as in a baroque Wunderkammer. In the gold-filled niches, 23 large-format, multi-part enamels were placed at a distance of 5 cm from the back wall. These enamels were executed by the artist herself through manual graphic techniques and in a multi-layer firing process.

Above the gate in the east wing of the building are two putti, one sitting on a pile of books, the other looking with a telescope over a globe.
