On the Burgplatz façade of the Petersbogen Shopping Center, opened in 2019, there are six limestone statues commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Leipzig Debate of 1519, held at Pleissenburg Castle in Leipzig, which is close to this site. Its purpose was to discuss Martin Luther's teachings and was initiated and conducted in the presence of George, Duke of Saxony, an opponent of Luther.
In the lower row are the two disputants Johannes Eck and Martin Luther as well as the host Duke Georg of Saxony. In the upper row are the opening and closing speakers of the disputation, Petrus Mosellanus and Johann Langius Lembergius, as well as - without reference to the disputation, but at the request of the Swiss owners - the French-Swiss reformer Johannes Calvin.
