Description

Column crowned with palm fronds and in the pavement a bronze plate with footsteps and the date "09 oktober 1989". The concept of the design was by Stötzner, the column was created by Gläser, who designed himself the plate with footsteps.
The peace prayers in the Nikolaikirche, held since 1982, became in 1988 a protest against the German Democratic Republic. The Monday Demonstration in Leipzig on 9 October 1989 was the turning point of the entire further development tot the dissolution of the GDR.
