Description

Marble relief showing Orpheus playing a lyre, while a camel, a deer, a lioness and an ostrich are listening. This scene is inspired by a passage from the Metamorphoses by Ovid. Orpheus sung and played the lyre so sublimely that all the animals, even the fiercest, came up close to listen to him.
It is made by Volkmann in 1903 for the World's Fair in St. Louis, 1904.
