Albert Küppers & Gebrüder Menges
1880 |
The former building of the Royal Prussian Mining Administration Headquarters in the former town of St. Johann an der Saar (now part of Saarbrücken) was built between 1877 and 1880 after designs by the architects Martin Gropius and Heino Schmieden.
The statues and coats of arms of the corner bay and the statues of the central bay are from the workshop of the Menges brothers from Kaiserslautern. Significant contribution to the designs had probably Jakob Menges (1846-1916), the eldest of the four brothers, and his brother Karl (1853-1937). The Menges brothers were the third generation of a respected Palatine sculptor family.
The portrait medaillons are from the workshop of the Bonn sculptor Albert Küppers.
