Roland, a Frankish military leader under Charlemagne, became a symbol of the independence of the growing cities from the local nobility. He is depicted as a knight with a drawn sword.

Description

5.5 m tall sandstone statue of Roland with 4.4 m long wooden sword and shield with the coat of arms of Gardelegen. On his head he wears a bead with plugged feathers. On his back as a column with a jester.
