Description

Two stone statues on the façade of the former main Post Office of Magdeburg. Their names are in a banderole hold by a figure supporting the pedestal.
  1. Otto der I. (?) Otto I., der Große / Otto the Great (912 - Memleben 973), founder of the Holy Roman Empire, reigning from 936 until his death in 973 (Wikipedia).
  2. Editha Edgitha / Edith of England, also Eadgyth (910 - Magdeburg 946), daughter of Edward the Elder, and the wife of Otto I, Holy Roman Emperor (Wikipedia).

Annotation

The post office was built in the years 1895-99 in a Dutch late-gothic style by the architect von Stephan.
