Den an die neun Meter hohen 'Narrenturm' schmücken mehr als 200 Brunzefigure. Sie stehen alle mit dem Narrentreiben allgemein und der Mainzer Fastnacht im Besonderen in anschaulicher Verbindung. Von diesen Symbolen sind zum Beispiel zu erkennen der Bajazz mit seiner Laterne, der Till und der Geldbeutelwäscher, aber auch der Vater Rhein mit Tochter Mosel. Die 1967 als dreigestufte Komposition fertiggestellte Brunnenskulptur zeigt in der unteren Zone die handgreifliche Sphäre des Volkes. In der mittleren Zone verbindet der Künstler Mainzer Fastnachtsfolklore mit Witz und feiner Ironie. Und in oberen Zone kommt des Menschen Wunsch zum Ausdruck, in völliger Freiheit zu den Sternen zu greifen, um dann wieder mit dem fallenden Wasser hinunter zu hüpfen mitten in das Getriebe des Alltags. |
To the nine-meter high 'Narrenturm' is adorned with more than 200 bronze figures. They have all a clear connection with fools' bustle in general bustle and the Mainz Carnival in particular. Among these symbols are for instance the Bajazz with his lantern, the Till and the purse scrubber, but also the Father Rhine and daughter Mosel. The fountain was finished in 1967. The three tiered sculpture composition shows in the lower zone the tangible realm of the people. In the middle zone, the artist connects the Mainz Carnival with wit and subtle irony. And in the upper zone is expressed the human desire to grip the stars in complete freedom to the stars, and than with the falling water bounce back down to earth in the middle of the bustle of everyday life. |
