Description
Group of figures on the fountain bowl who symbolize the building history of the city:
- Roman legionary, with in front of him the Jupiter column and a model of a temple (founding of the town in Roman times).
- Bishop with a church model (building of the Cathedral, foundation stone laid by Archbishop Willigis in 975).
- Patrician, with a large key and at his feet the double wheel of Mainz and symbols of the guilds (?).
- Architect with a plan ("Plan der Bleichen M 1:1000") and a model of a house façade (building of the Bleiche area, 2nd half 17th century).
- Man with model of the city wall (?), in front of him an owl on a pile of books and the façade of a building (probably founding of the university, 1477).

According to Blumers, the depicted figures are a Roman legionary, medieval monk, patrician, Austrian dragoon and parents with children, which does not agree with reality (but is often copied on the internet).
