The Watchful Rooster

Description

Stone column with at the top a gold coloured rooster. On the column a.o. the text "die essener schützen ihren gefallenen, 1914-1918, 1939-1945" an a relief of a warrior with bow and arrow, and the names of battlefields.
The rooster comes from a regional legend and is the symbol of the Essen shooter's association (Schützenverein) 1390, who took the initiative for this monument.
