Statue of Saint John the Bapist pointing with his right hand to the Basilica, and holding in his left and a book with the text parare vias eius ("Prepare the way for him" after Luke 1, 76, Zacharias address his son John: "And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him").
The statue is on top of two 'blocks' in a fountain. The upper block has on it the left side a sculpture of the Lamb of God and on the back and right sides respectively one and two locusts.
