or James, son of Zebedee (d. 44)
one of the Twelve Apostles. Patron saint of pilgrims, soldiers and cavalrymen. Depicted holding a pilgrim's staff decorated with a scallop shell. His remains are in Santiago de Compostela in Galicia (Spain)

Description

Statue of St. James the Greater as a pilger with several shells, sitting on a stool with reliefs at the sides. It stands on a stone pedestal with s. jacob e / apost...e, which is much older than the statue.

The same statue is in Miltenberg, but there named 'Pilger im Aufbruch'.
