The stone lions are a remnant of Geldern's war memorial, which was inaugurated in 1932 on the Wallstraße. The monument was designed by the architect Josef Lepelmann. In 1967 the monument was demolished to make place for a parking lot. Only the lions were kept at the kindergartens in the Poststraße and Schloßstraße. Later it had to give way to road construction and parking lots. In 2013 they were placed at the present location as part of the Metamorphosis group.
