Description

The tympanum has a stone relief showing the legend of the ship on which Saint Nicholas had visited the Holy Land was nearly destroyed by a terrible storm, but he rebuked the waves, causing the storm to subside. Because of this miracle, Nicholas became venerated as the patron saint of sailors. (This story however comes from the vita of Nicholas of Sion, a priest of the sixth century).
