Description

Stone statue of Saint Engelbert as bishop, sitting on a eagle-throne, in his left hand he holds a bishop's staff and he makes a blessing gesture with his right hand, but on his right side hangs a sword.

dem sohn kaiser friedrichs ii.

engelbert wird in wipperfürth
seit dem 19. jahrhundert
als stadtpatron verehrt.

With his brother,
count Adolf III, he resigned
the citizens of Wipperfürth
around 1217 the taxes
to the sovereign.

After the death of Adolf in 1218
he became count of Berg,
In 1220 regent
and guardian of Heinrich,
the son of Emperor Friedrich II.

Engelbert is in Wipperfürth
since the 19th century
worshiped as city patron.

shows him with sword and bishop's staff,

and spiritual rule
