ENGELBERG VON BERG geboren um 1185 ermordet am 7.11.1225 seit 1216 war er erzbischof von köln mit seinem bruder, graf adolf iii., erliess er den bürgern von wipperfürth um 1217 die abgaben an den landesherren. nach dem tod adolfs i.j. 1218 wurde er graf von berg, 1220 reichsverweser und vormund von heinrich dem sohn kaiser friedrichs ii. engelbert wird in wipperfürth seit dem 19. jahrhundert als stadtpatron verehrt. die bronzefigur von 1914 zeigt ihn mit schwert und bischofsstab, den symbolen weltlicher und geistlicher herrschaft |
ENGELBERG VON BERG born around 1185 murdered on 7 Nov. 1225 Since 1216 he was Archbishop of Cologne. With his brother, count Adolf III, he resigned the citizens of Wipperfürth around 1217 the taxes to the sovereign. After the death of Adolf in 1218 he became count of Berg, In 1220 regent and guardian of Heinrich, the son of Emperor Friedrich II. Engelbert is in Wipperfürth since the 19th century worshiped as city patron. The bronze figure of 1914 shows him with sword and bishop's staff, the symbols of worldly and spiritual rule |
