Description

Column with a statue of Virgin Mary Immaculate, on top of a gothic column with statues of the four great prophets:

Ezechiel / Ezekiel

Jeremia / Jeremiah

On the lowest level is on the front side a tabernacle and on the other sides coats-of-arms of Pope Pius IX, archbishop Johannes von Geissel, and the City of Cologne.

The overall architectural design for the column is from Vincenz Statz, individual elements, however, were performed by other artists and artisans: The prophets were implemented by Peter Fuchs from drawings by Eduard Jakob von Steinle, who also provided the designs for the Virgin Mary. This statue was realized by the sculptor Gottfried Renn.
