The Five Cardinal Virtues

Description

At the base of the Ionic columns between the windows of the first floor of the Neue Ratsstube (New Council Chamber) are five stone reliefs showing the cardinal virtues:

FIDES. - Glaube / Faith, with cross and book.
PRVDENTIA. - Klugheit / Prudence, with mirror and snake.
IVSTITIA. - Gerechtigkeit / Justice, double-headed woman with a sword
FORTITVDO. - Tapferkei / Strength, with column and slain lion.
TEMPERANT[IA]. - Mäßigung / Temperance, pouring water in a chalice.
