The Fountain was created in 1902 for the Düsseldorf "Industrie- und Gewerbeausstellung für Rheinland und Westfalen" (Industrial and Commercial Exhibition of Rhineland and Westphalia) by W. Fassbinder, Cologne, and was subsequently purchased by the Dortmunder Verschönerungsverein (Dortmund Improvement Society), with financial help also vy the residents of the square between Arndt and Kaiser Straße. On 9 May 1903 the monument was unveiled.
