Text on the pedestal

der neue moses hatte
einen vorläfer: einen pa-
triarchischer moses aus
nivelsteiner sandstein die-
se figur wurde in der nacht
vom 6 zum 7 feb. 1934 von an-
hängern der nationalsozialisten
zerstört. kurt-wolf von borries
stellte am 9. sept. 1962 seinen
neuen moses auf ein stück des
alten moses und schuf damit
ein gesamtkunstwerk, welches
auch eine mahnung gegen rassisti-
sche und antisemitische verirrun-
gen sein sollte. dieser sockel ging bei
der umsetzung der figure im jahr
1997 zu bruch und wurde am 17. aug.
1997 durch den heutigen basaltso-
ckel ersetzt. das moses-denkmal
ist eine stiftung des herzogenrather
nadelfabrikanten
ferdinand bernhard schmetz 		The new Moses had

riarchal Moses made of
Nivelstein sandstone.
This figure, during the night
of 6-7 Febr. 1934, was des-
troyed by National Socialist
supporters. Kurt-Wolf von Borries
placed his new Moses on a piece
of the old Moses and thus created
a total work of art, which
was also intended as a warning
against racist and anti-Semitic
aberrations. This pedestal was broken
during the relocation of the figure in
1997 and was replaced by the present
basalt pedestal on 17 August 1997.
The Moses Monument was endowed by
Ferdinand Bernhard Schmetz,
a needle manufacturer
from Herzogenrath.
