Konrad Heresbach 1496-1576 Ein Humanist als Pädagoge und Politiker, begraben in der Willibrordikirche in Wesel Konrad Heresbach hat als langjähriger Erzieher den klevischen Erbprinzen in humanistischer Geist geprägt. Dem späteren Herzog Wilhelm dem Reichen diente er dann insbesondere auf dem Gebieten der Rechtspflege, der Wissenschaftsförderung und der Behandlung theologische und kirchenpolitischer Fragen als wichtiger Berater. Unermüdlich war Heresbach als herzoglicher Rat in den verschie- densten Missionen für das Herzogtum Jülich-Kleve-Berg tätig um das Wohl des Staates wie seiner Einwohner zu förderen. Durch seine Bücher über die Landwirtschaft ist er Vater der modernen Agrarwissenschaften. Heresbach arbeitete für den Ausgleich zwischen den Konfessionen und beeinflußte die kirchliche Entwicklung in Wesel. Mit seiner Frau Mechtel van Duenen errichtete er eine heute noch bestehende Studienstiftung. Der Stadt Wesel vermachte er seine kostbare Humanistenbibliothek. |
Konrad Heresbach 1496-1576 A humanist as educator and politician, buried in the Willibrord Church in Wesel Konrad Heresbach, as his longtime educator, shaped the hereditary prince of Kleve in a humanistic spirit. To the later Duke Wilhelm the Rich, he then served as an important advisor particularly in the areas of the administration of justice, the promotion of science and the treatment of theological and church-political questions. Heresbach worked tirelessly as a ducal councilor on a wide variety of missions for the Duchy of Jülich-Kleve-Berg to promote the welfare of the state and its inhabitants. Through his books on agriculture, he is the father of modern agricultural science. Heresbach worked to balance the denominations and influenced church development in Wesel. With his wife Mechtel van Duenen he set up a study foundation that still exists today. He bequeathed his valuable humanist library to the city of Wesel. |
