Rupert's Needle

Alistair Lambert & Pupils of the Prince Rupert School in Rinteln
2014

Rinteln / Rupert's Needle   Rinteln / Rupert's Needle

Description

A ceramic clad obelisk with on the top a phoenix. The ceramic reliefs reflect what the creators associate with Rinteln. The children favour things like ice cream, sunshine and things they enjoy. The cook contributes a platter in the shape of a cake. The play of colours continues from blue to gold at the top. A bird is mounted at the top, a dove modelled by the artist himself. There are a few texts: prince rupert school 1972-2014, stadt rinteln, lasting friendship,, dauerhafte freundschaft and the school's motto sapienta ex igne (wisdom from the flames).
It commemorates the closure of the Prince Rupert School, a secondary school in Rinteln operated by the Service Children's Education for children of military personnel and its employees of the former British sector of West Germany. It was unveiled 30 June 2014.
