Description

The Christuskirche (Christ Church) was built from 1859-64 after designs of the architect Conrad Wilhelm Hase (1818-1902). Financially the building was supported by King George V of Hannover and the church became an important object of representation of the royal house of Guelph until the annexation of Hannover by Prussia in 1866.
  1. In the jambs of the west portal four statues, sculpted by Christian Mohr:
    1. Abraham, with scroll.
    2. David, with harp.
    3. St. Paulus / St. Paul, with book and sword.
    4. St. Petrus / St. Peter, with book and key?

  2. The south portal is flanked by two statues by Edmund Renard and with a relief in the tympan by Carl Dopmeyer:

    1. Anbetung der Könige / The Adoration of the Magi, with on a ribbon above Mary and Child: 'Seine Herrschaft wird gross werden, sein Friede unendlich Jes. IX, vers 7'. This refers to the Kings of Hannover.
    2. Gabriel with scroll 'Ave Maria ....'
