Swedish Pomeranian and pharmaceutical chemist, discovered oxygen (although Joseph Priestley published his findings first), and identified molybdenum, tungsten, barium, hydrogen, and chlorine before Humphry Davy, among others

Stone portrait medaillon with name "carl wilhelm scheele 1742-1786" and a stone plaque with the text "Geburtshaus des Chemikers Carl Wilhelm Scheele" (birth house of the chemist Carl Wilhelm Scheele). Both plaques are now in the hall of the Hotel Scheelehof.
