Description

Five sculptures from the old Stock Exchange of c. 1843. The old Stock Exchange was bombed in 1944, but the five sculptures were not damaged, and placed in the gallery of the new Stock Exchange:

Landhandel - Overland Trade, a bearded man with camel.
Afrika - Africa
Europa - Europe

Three continents are made by Johann Nepomuk Zwerger after designs from Karl Eduard Wendelstadt. The 'Landhandel' and 'Australien' is by Eduard Schmidt von der Launitz. Schmidt's third statue, 'Seehandel' was damaged in 1944.

the six statues exhibited here were part of the facade decoration of the first
frankfurt stock exchange building, completed in the year 1843, which was
located on the paulsplatz (old stock exchange).
these allegories represent the five continents and the overland trade and
symbolize the international dimension of frankfurt's currency
