Annotation

From an event on the church tower the Hersfeld people got their nickname. On a day in the summer of 1674 they saw at the church tower a cloud of smoke, many rushed to the tower with water buckets to clear the supposed fire. At the top, they realized that it was merely a large swarm of mosquitoes that circled around the tower. Thus, so established the nickname Mückenstürmer (mosquito strikers).
