Description

Seven statues on the baroque west façade of the cathedral, built by Gabriel de Gabrieli, 1716-1718.

  1. Sankt Richard von Wessex / Saint Richard the Pilgrim, brother-in-law of Saint Boniface (Archbishop of Mainz) and father of Saint Willibald (Bishop of Eichstätt), Saint Winnebald or Winibald (Abbot of Heidenheim) and Saint Walburga (Abbess of Heidenheim (Wikipedia), with crown and sceptre.
  2. Saint Willibald [in restauration].

  3. Madonna mit Kind / St. Mary with Child.
  4. St. Walburga / Saint Walpurga (England c. 710- Heidenheim 779) English missionary to the Frankish Empire; abbess of the monastery in Heidenheim Germany; sister of Sts. Willibald and Winebald

  5. Sankt Wunibald / Saint Winibald (Wessex 701 - Heidenheim 761), founder and first abbot of Heidenheim (Wikipedia), shown with book and staff.

  1. St. Petrus / St. Peter - (possibly died AD 67), apostle, first pope; patron saint of locksmiths and confessors. Usually holding the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven in his hand (Wikipedia)
  2. St. Paulus / St. Paul - the Apostle, (c. 5 - c. 67 ), persecuted the early followers of Jesus before switching sides and seeking to join them. He was instrumental in creating the Christian Church. He is the protector of tent-makers, theologians and the ecclesiastical press and is depicted with a sword. (Wikipedia).
At the east side of the church is on a buttress a weathered statue of an unknown saint.
