The statue depicts the oath of Hagen from the Nibelungensaga: The quarrel of the queens in front of the cathedral of Worms ended with the humiliation of King Gunter's wife Brunhild by Kriemhild, wife of Siegfried. Hagen of Tronje swore then in presence of Brunhild and King Gunter, to avenge them and led the act of the murder of Siegfried near a source in the Odenwald.
