Description

Obelisk with on top a statue of Franconia with a duke's hat and the Frankish storm flag (Rennfähnlein), the emblem of the former prince-bishopric of Würzburg. On the sides of the obelisk coats of arms of prince-bishop Adam Friedrich von Seinsheim of Würzburg (1755-1779) (front) and Franconia (back).

The obelisk stands on a base, on the corners of the base are allegorical statues of the four cardinal virtues:

Gerechtigkeit - Justice, woman with scales and fasces.
Tapferheit - Fortitude, woman with helmet.
Mäßigkeit - Temperance, woman filling a goblet with wine.
Weisheit - Prudence, woman with mirror and book.

Under these statues dolphins spout water in a basin.

On the front and back sides the coat of arms of Würzburg with the date 1766 (and on the back below the cartouche "Renov. 1907").

Annotation

The design is made by Lucas van der Auvera, and the figures are sculpted by Johann Peter Wagner. All figures are copies of 1927. The originals are in the Mainfränkische Museum.
