Information Sign

Robert Wilhelm Bunsen (1811-1899)

Professor in Marburg (1839), Breslau (1851), Heidelberg (1852).
Direktor des Chemischen Laboratioriums, Begründer der chemischen Analyse,
entwickelte die Chromsäure-Batterie und die Schmelzflusselektrolyse zur
Herstellung von Magnesium; schuf zusammen mit Gustav Robert Kirchhof
die Spektralanalyse und entdeckte Cäsium und Rubidium (1860).

Annotation

The original monument was unveiled on 1 August 1908 on the Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage. The statue was in 1961 replaced to the side of the Anatomiegarten. In 1978 is was placed in the center flanked by the two statues representing the nawakened and still untamed forces of nature, which were part of the original monument.
