Description

Column topped by a start and with the Soviet symbol on the front. The column stands on a small memorial building, which has two large reliefs on the wall. The reliefs show soldiers in combat:

Annotation

The memorial commemorates particularly those Soviet soldiers and officers who died during the Berlin operation early 1945 in the containment and destruction of the Frankfurt/Gubener Wehrmacht grouping. Its construction was initiated by Lt. Gen. Vasily Mitrofanov, at the time commander of the 6. Gardepanzerkorps 3.Gardepanzerarmee.

The foundation stone for the memorial took was laid on 5 August 1946 and the inauguration took place on 7 November 1947.
