Sandstone ust of E.T.A. Hoffmann with one arm, which is stretched out and carrying on his hand a crowned snake, which slides down from the shoulder. The serpent alludes to Hoffmann's surrealistic, fantastic stories of Hoffmann. The bust is a whole with the base which is surrounded by naked sitting figures of children.
The sculpture was created in 1978 has stood near the Karl Liebknecht Bridge. After being damaged by vandalism in 1990, it was reconstructed and re-erected at a nearby location. After renewed vandalism in 2009, it was placed in the foyer of the town hall of the Bezirk Mitte on the Karl-Marx-Allee 31. Now it stands in the courtyard of the café of the library, and can be visited during opening hours.
