The statue is erected by the Société Royale Union Belge - Lausanne, founded in 1926. This society brought together the Belgian refugees, widows and orphans - victims of the first world war welcomed in the Lausanne region, - as well as Belgians resident in Switzerland. The statue was unveiled 26 July 1930.
