Winged Victory of Samothrace

Athena or Pallas Athena (Παλλὰς Ἀθηνᾶ) in Greek, or Minerva, in Roman mythology the goddess of war, civilization, wisdom, etc. She is often depicted with an owl, which symbolizes her ties to wisdom.

VICTOIRE DE SAMOTRACE

A Vitória de Samotrácia retrata Atena Niké, a deusa grega da vitória. Tem a forma de uma
mulher alada e foi encontrada na ilha de Samotrácia em 1863. Presume-se uma carranca de
navio de guerra, que perdeu a cabeça, os braçcos e pés em uma batalha.
É possíveil que tenha sido usada para ornamentar a entrada de um santuáio dedicado aos
Cabírios, considerados protetores dos navegantes.

VICTOIRE DE SAMOTRACE

The Victory of Samothrace portrays Athena Niké, the Greek goddess of victory. It is shaped like a
winged woman and was found on the island of Samothrace in 1863. It is assumed a warship
scowl, which lost its head, arms and feet in a battle.
It is possible that it was used to decorate the entrance of a sanctuary dedicated to the
Cabírios, considered protector of the navigators.
