Annotation

The original statue was placed nearby. 'Teun de Eierboer' was the voice of the people. The citizens of Antwerp hung pamphlets around it with comments on what happened in the city, mostly critical, sometimes laudatory.
The original statue (soon on display in the MAS, the new Museum of Antwerp) is made around 1683 (not 1667 as is written in the text) and made by Peter Scheemaeckers. In 1909 it was replaced by a copy made by J. Kerckx.
