Description

The Institut der Englischen Fräulein (Institute of the English Maiden) is a monastery of the Institutum Beatae Mariae Virginis (since 2004 Congregation of Jesus), a congregations of Religious Sisters founded in 1609 through the work of the Venerable Mary Ward (1585-1645), who was dedicated to female education.

The Baroque monastery in Sankt Pölten was acquired in 1706 and expanded continuously in the following decades. Starting from 1748, the institute got its present appearance.

The two-storey front of the institute has a pilaster arrangement and has three prominent, richly decorated niches with statues of which the base rests on two columns, with between a saint statue. The sculptures of the façade are probably from Peter Widerin and Andreas Gruber.
