Ya en 1882 se llamaba como hoy y en el centro ostentaba un molino, donde hoy existe un cantero central en el que se colocó en 1910 la piedra fundamental de un monumento a Cristobal Colón que jamás se concretó. En ese lugar se colocó un cofre con periódicos de época y medallas alusivas como testimonio.
